雨の中の乗客
English Story
Rain hit the streets of Tokyo like small stones.
Kumi was driving her taxi near Shinjuku when a young man raised his hand. He wore a dark coat, but his hair and shoulders were wet.
“Haneda Airport, please,” he said in careful English.
Kumi looked at him in the mirror. “Haneda? This late?”
“Yes. Please hurry.”
His name was Min-jun. At least, that was the name on the taxi app. During the ride, he kept looking behind them.
“Is someone following us?” Kumi asked.
Min-jun did not answer at first. Then he said, “Maybe. Can you change the road?”
Kumi knew Tokyo well. She turned into a narrow street, crossed two busy roads, and watched the black car behind them disappear.
Min-jun finally breathed out.
Near the airport, he suddenly said, “Stop here.”
“This isn’t the terminal.”
“I know.”
He placed the fare on the seat. Then he gave Kumi a small silver key.
“Keep this safe.”
“What is it for?”
“If someone asks about me, you never saw me.”
Before Kumi could speak, he opened the door and ran into the rain.
Kumi stared at the key in her hand.
Then a phone rang from the back seat.
She picked it up. On the screen was a photo of her taxi.
And someone was standing beside it.

そしてKumiに、小さな銀色の鍵を渡した。
「これを安全な場所に保管してください」
「何の鍵？」
「もし誰かに僕のことを聞かれたら、僕には会っていないと言ってください」
Kumiが話すより早く、彼はドアを開け、雨の中へ走り去った。
Kumiは、手の中にある鍵を見つめた。
その時、後部座席から電話の音が鳴った。
Kumiはスマートフォンを拾い上げた。
画面には、Kumiのタクシーの写真が映っていた。
